BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to participate in a mass college shooting that could have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive Faculty, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Department stated in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no school that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive gadget supplies and threatening to commit against the law which will result in demise or nice bodily injury.

Police stated they acquired a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teenager was a pupil at Berkeley High School.

Upon executing the search warrant, police mentioned they discovered parts to explosives and assault rifles, a number of knives, and digital items that might be used to create additional weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"Faculty security remains a high precedence for the department," police mentioned in an announcement. 

Particulars on whom the teen was making an attempt to recruit were not disclosed. Police mentioned this case remains underneath investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens told the varsity's community that the district was in shut contact with police throughout this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teenager's weapon elements, the district relied on police expertise to assess any potential ongoing risk to its schools. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this period, we alerted our administrative and safety staff about this investigation and, as is our commonplace apply, maintained shut contact with our BPD College Resource Officer on the Berkeley Excessive College campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation period, we had been assured that this particular person did not pose a direct menace to the Berkeley High College neighborhood."

The district is conducting their own investigation on this matter. 

The district may pursue disciplinary motion against the coed. 

In addition, a town corridor assembly titled: 'Find out how to Discuss to Kids About Faculty Violence' offered by Alameda County Workplace of Training is scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
