BERKELEY, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy was arrested after recruiting others to take part in a mass school shooting that might have included a bombing at Berkeley Excessive Faculty, police say. 

The teenager was arrested Monday, when he turned himself in to police, Berkeley Police Division mentioned in a press release. Monday was Memorial Day and there was no college that day. 

The boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing destructive system materials and threatening to commit against the law which is able to end in demise or great bodily injury.

Police stated they obtained a tip on Saturday that the boy was recruiting others in plans of a shooting that included explosives. Following the tip, police obtained and executed a search warrant for a residence. 

Police didn't say if the teenager was a pupil at Berkeley High School.

Upon executing the search warrant, police said they found components to explosives and assault rifles, several knives, and electronic gadgets that may very well be used to create further weapons. 

At that point, a warrant was obtained for the teenager's arrest.

"Faculty security remains a excessive precedence for the department," police stated in an announcement. 

Details on whom the teen was attempting to recruit weren't disclosed. Police mentioned this case stays under investigation. 

Berkeley Unified Supt. Brent Stephens informed the varsity's community that the district was in close contact with police during this investigation. 

After police confiscated the teen's weapon components, the district relied on police experience to evaluate any potential ongoing danger to its colleges. The district communicated with police on the coed's whereabouts. 

"As added precautions during this period, we alerted our administrative and security employees about this investigation and, as is our commonplace follow, maintained shut contact with our BPD Faculty Useful resource Officer on the Berkeley High College campus," Stephens wrote. "Throughout the investigation interval, we were assured that this individual did not pose a direct threat to the Berkeley Excessive School neighborhood."

The district is conducting their very own investigation on this matter. 

The district may pursue disciplinary motion against the student.
