Florida fifth grader arrested, charged with threatening a mass capturing, police say

A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to hold out a mass shooting, authorities said.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office stated it had learned earlier that day of a "threatening text message" sent by a student at an elementary school.

It stated its local school menace enforcement crew was immediately notified and started investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass capturing," the sheriff's workplace stated.

In video shared by authorities, the boy could be seen being led right into a police vehicle.

“This scholar’s behavior is sickening, especially after the latest tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in an announcement, noting that the threat got here simply days after the lethal college capturing at Robb Elementary College left 19 college students and two teachers useless.

“Proper now will not be the time to behave like somewhat delinquent. It’s not funny,” he said. “This child made a pretend threat, and now he’s experiencing actual consequences.”

Marceno mentioned his group “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to investigate the incident.
