Talking within the dugout of the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler said, "I don't plan on coming out for the anthem going forward till I really feel better about the route of our country."

We aren't free when politicians decide that the lobbyist and gun industries are more essential than our kids's freedom to go to school while not having bulletproof backpacks and energetic shooter drills," Kapler wrote.
Later, Kapler wrote about his disillusionment with what he called "the shortage of supply of the promise of what our nationwide anthem represents."
"I am not okay with the state of this country. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I could have demonstrated what I learned from my dad, that while you're dissatisfied together with your country, you let it's identified by means of protest. The house of the brave ought to encourage this."
