Parent with concealed weapon by chance shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD faculty, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the parent within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the guardian in the leg.

The school had early release and students were released on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

In response to police, the dad or mum, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The college district stated White was inside the building, close to the foyer space, and never within the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officers mentioned there was no threat made and the mother or father did not have "malicious intent."

No college students or employees were injured. The parent was taken to an area hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days because the Uvalde mass school taking pictures, there have been five instances in North Texas associated to weapons introduced to varsities or threats made.

Arlington mother and father stated their minds immediately thought of the worst when they were notified.

No parent ever needs there to be a cause for them to get a text message saying their child's school is on lockdown.

However since this week's deadly shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help however suppose the worst after they do.

"Once I received the text message, I used to be like, ‘Oh my God, one thing is going to occur.’ I was shocked," parent Karima Rasheed stated.

While most instances, lockdowns are only drills college students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that knowing what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I began seeing my classmates starting to cry and our instructor got a notification on their telephone saying somebody was within the constructing," he said.

Guns aren't allowed on faculty property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with stated even if it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They need to go to school, and obviously, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, but you never wish to be the one statistic. What if it's your kids?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives across the road from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve acquired twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington college and each time I hear there is a lockdown or a faculty taking pictures, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he said.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to high school in the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever occurred at his college.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve obtained to run wherever that’s secure and hide," she told her child.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is just too recent to speak politics, Mitchell stated one thing must be finished now. 

"They need to talk about it, they want to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, but they don’t want to truly go any laws and do anything," he added.
