Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was launched.

The US tech giant stated its iconic music player has been changed by other units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, said: "At this time, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've integrated an unbelievable music experience throughout all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with help for spatial audio - there is not any higher way to get pleasure from, discover, and experience music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the first MP3 participant that might maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new class of digital music participant that lets you put your complete music assortment in your pocket and take heed to it wherever you go," he stated on the time.
