Taliban chief orders ladies to put on all-covering burqa in public: Decree

Afghanistan’s supreme leader and Taliban chief on Saturday ordered the country’s ladies to put on the all-covering burqa in public - one of the harshest controls imposed on women’s lives because the Taliban seized power.

“They need to wear a chadori (head-to-toe burqa) as it's conventional and respectful,” mentioned a decree issued by Hibatullah Akhundzada that was launched by Taliban authorities at a perform in Kabul.

“These girls who should not too outdated or younger should cowl their face, besides the eyes, as per sharia directives, with the intention to keep away from provocation when meeting men who will not be mahram (adult close male relations),” the decree mentioned.

It added that if women had no essential work exterior it was “better they stay at dwelling.”

During their first regime between 1996 and 2001, the Taliban imposed comparable restrictions on girls.
