Mum or dad with hid weapon by accident shoots self while at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mum or dad in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police mentioned Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a concealed weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

The college had early launch and college students had been launched on the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

Based on police, the mother or father, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and unintentionally shot himself. His harm was not critical.

The varsity district said White was contained in the constructing, close to the lobby space, and not within the hallway close to students when the gun went off.

Police and school officers said there was no menace made and the mother or father did not have "malicious intent."

No students or staff have been injured. The mum or dad was taken to an space hospital after being shot in the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones mentioned after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

Within the two days since the Uvalde mass faculty shooting, there have been five instances in North Texas associated to weapons introduced to colleges or threats made.

Arlington parents mentioned their minds instantly considered the worst when they had been notified.

No dad or mum ever wants there to be a reason for them to get a text message saying their kid's school is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help but think the worst after they do.

"When I received the textual content message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something goes to occur.’ I was shocked," mum or dad Karima Rasheed mentioned.

Whereas most occasions, lockdowns are only drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, mentioned that understanding what occurred earlier this week made this lockdown different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our teacher received a notification on their cellphone saying someone was within the building," he said.

Guns are not allowed on school property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with stated even when it was a mistake, the timing is simply horrible.

"What are we going to do? They must go to school, and obviously, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, however you by no means want to be the one statistic. What if it is your children?" Matthew Mitchell said.

Mitchell lives across the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington school. 

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve bought twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington college and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a school shooting, my heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed mentioned Thursday was the graduation day for 6th grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to high school in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his faculty.

"If something happened, you’ve bought to run wherever that’s protected and hide," she advised her child.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is just too recent to talk politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing needs to be carried out now. 

"They wish to discuss it, they need to campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, but they don’t wish to really pass any laws and do anything," he added.
