Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a parent with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the guardian within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary College was placed on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mother or father with a concealed weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the father or mother within the leg.

The school had early release and college students have been released at the planned time of 12:10 p.m.

Based on police, the father or mother, identified as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by chance shot himself. His damage was not critical.

The varsity district mentioned White was inside the building, near the foyer area, and never within the hallway close to college students when the gun went off.

Police and school officials said there was no risk made and the dad or mum didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or workers have been injured. The guardian was taken to an area hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones stated after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Within the two days for the reason that Uvalde mass faculty taking pictures, there have been 5 cases in North Texas associated to guns introduced to colleges or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom stated their minds immediately considered the worst once they have been notified.

No father or mother ever desires there to be a motive for them to get a text message saying their kid's faculty is on lockdown.

However since this week's lethal taking pictures at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can't help however assume the worst once they do.

"Once I received the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to happen.’ I was shocked," dad or mum Karima Rasheed said.

Whereas most occasions, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to take part in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that knowing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I began seeing my classmates beginning to cry and our trainer obtained a notification on their telephone saying someone was within the building," he mentioned.

"I’m terrified, completely terrified. I’ve obtained twin six-year-olds that go to a unique Arlington college and every time I hear there's a lockdown or a school capturing, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he stated.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to highschool in the morning, she had a talk with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever occurred at his faculty.

"If one thing happened, you’ve obtained to run wherever that’s safe and conceal," she informed her baby.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is simply too recent to speak politics, Mitchell mentioned one thing must be performed now. 

"They wish to discuss it, they wish to marketing campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t wish to really pass any legal guidelines and do anything," he added.
