SACRAMENTO, Calif. >> A suspect on the run since a mass shooting left six people lifeless throughout an alleged gang dispute in California’s capital city final month has been arrested in Las Vegas, authorities mentioned.

Investigators believe Mtula Payton was one of the alleged gang members who opened fire in downtown Sacramento on April 3. He was taken into custody at an condo complicated, the Sacramento Police Department said in an announcement Saturday evening.

“Las Vegas Metro Police Division worked with our detectives for weeks in an effort to locate Payton,” the assertion said.

It wasn’t recognized Sunday if Payton has an attorney who might converse on his behalf.

Payton and two others, brothers Smiley Martin and Dandrae Martin, had been charged this month with murder within the slayings, in addition to weapons offenses.

Investigators offered no motive however stated in courtroom paperwork that Smiley Martin and his companions recorded a web-based video hours before the taking pictures, flashing weapons and speaking trash from a location in rival gang territory. In it, they state their plans to move to the downtown space with the intent of opening fire.

Three men alleged to be gang members and three women who have been innocent bystanders died in the shootout that occurred as patrons of bars and nightclubs emptied out onto downtown streets. A dozen more folks have been wounded.

The Martin brothers, who were among the many wounded, stay jailed. Attorneys for the brothers have but to comment on their charging.

Payton, who police say is a member of a rival gang, was being held in a Nevada jail pending transport back to California.
