A fifth grade student in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to hold out a mass taking pictures, authorities said.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office mentioned it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening text message" despatched by a scholar at an elementary faculty.

It said its local college risk enforcement staff was immediately notified and started investigating. The ten-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass capturing," the sheriff's workplace said.

In video shared by authorities, the boy will be seen being led right into a police car.

“This student’s behavior is sickening, particularly after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in an announcement, noting that the threat got here just days after the deadly college capturing at Robb Elementary School left 19 students and two academics dead.

“Right now isn't the time to behave like slightly delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he said. “This child made a fake menace, and now he’s experiencing actual consequences.”

Marceno mentioned his team “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to research the incident.

The remark came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the Could 24 school shooting after it got here to mild that they waited roughly an hour for backup as an alternative of immediately moving in on the gunman.
