A fifth grade pupil in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to carry out a mass shooting, authorities said.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace stated it had discovered earlier that day of a "threatening text message" despatched by a pupil at an elementary faculty.

It stated its local school threat enforcement staff was instantly notified and began investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass capturing," the sheriff's office said.

In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led right into a police vehicle.

“This student’s habits is sickening, especially after the current tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in a press release, noting that the menace got here just days after the deadly school capturing at Robb Elementary School left 19 college students and two academics dead.

“Proper now is not the time to behave like a bit of delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he stated. “This little one made a faux menace, and now he’s experiencing real consequences.”

Marceno said his staff “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to research the incident.

The comment got here as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 school taking pictures after it got here to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup as a substitute of instantly shifting in on the gunman.
