The coverage, disclosed in leaked emails Musk sent to Tesla's executive staff Tuesday, was first reported by electrical vehicle news website Electrek.

"Anybody who needs to do remote work must be in the office for a minimum (and I mean *minimum*) of 40 hours per week or depart Tesla. That is lower than we ask of manufacturing facility staff," Musk wrote, adding that the office have to be the employee's major office where the opposite staff they repeatedly interact with are based mostly — "not a remote branch workplace unrelated to the job duties."

Musk mentioned he would personally review any request for exemption from the policy, however that for the most half, "If you don't show up, we will assume you've gotten resigned."

Tesla (TSLA) didn't reply to a request for touch upon the coverage change, however Musk appeared to substantiate it in a tweet of his own early Wednesday when requested on Twitter, "Hey Elon...any additional comment to people who think coming into work is an antiquated idea?" Musk replied: "They need to fake to work somewhere else."The policy is completely at odds with that of the opposite tech company Musk is attempting to purchase, Twitter (TWTR), which has beforehand introduced staff can proceed to work from home "ceaselessly" if they like. "Wherever you're feeling most efficient and artistic is where you'll work and that features working from home full-time without end," CEO Parag Agrawal wrote in a note to Twitter's almost 100,000 staff in March, simply before Musk's curiosity in owning the social media platform was disclosed. At Tesla, however, that won't be the case. It's particularly important that senior managers be seen in the workplace, Musk stated, adding that was one of the causes he essentially lived at the Tesla manufacturing facility in Fremont, California, when the company was struggling to increase production in 2017 and 2018.

"If I had not executed that, Tesla would way back have gone bankrupt," he wrote. "There are in fact firms that do not require this, however when was the final time they shipped a great new product? It's been a while."

He added, "Tesla has and can create and truly manufacture essentially the most exciting and meaningful merchandise of any firm on Earth," he added. "This won't occur by phoning it in."

Surveys present the majority of workplace workers want the choice to work from home. Since reopening places of work following Covid-19 shutdowns, many companies beyond Twitter have announced increased flexibility for employees who want to work remotely, partly as a method to retain or appeal to talent in a very tight labor market. However the world's richest individual doesn't seem concerned about that dynamic.
